Synopsis

For well over fifty years, Reverend Billy Graham has preached the Gospel to millions of people around the world. Whether ministering to world leaders or to African bushmen, his mission has always been simple: To spread the word of God. And he has. Now age eighty-four, his pace may be somewhat slower, but true to his calling, Graham remains an integral part of his highly active ministry. Here, then, is an inside and personal view of a day in Billy Graham’s very full life--a day filled with hectic meetings, unexpected phone calls, and numerous appointments, as well as stolen moments of quiet for prayer and contemplation. Included, too, is a joyous hour or two upon a stage in which the reverend earnestly speaks to thousands of people about God, love, and salvation through faith.

A Day in the Life of Billy Graham takes us on a journey through time and distance to discover so much about this fascinating man. We learn about his childhood, his past Crusades, and his relationships with presidents, as well as his experiences in the Holy Land. We enjoy a unique glimpse into the life of one of Christendom’s most beloved and enduring evangelists. And throughout, we are witness to the power of God that propels Billy Graham’s mission forward and upward.

Deborah Hart Strober was born in Newark, New Jersey, into a family of musicians and journalists. Beginning in the late 1950s, she performed professionally as Deborah Hart in musical theater. In the late 1970s, Ms. Strober was hired by the New York Jewish Week to write a column "Notes on Music." But with a keen interest in politics and international affairs, she soon won general reporting assignments in New York, Lebanon, and Israel.

Gerald S. Strober was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Strober served on the national staff of the American Jewish Committee, where he coordinated the organization’s relations with the evangelical Christian community. He is the author of American Jews: Community in Crisis, and the co-author of Religion and the New Majority.

The Strobers are co-authors of "Let Us Begin Anew:" An Oral History of the Kennedy Presidency; Nixon: An Oral History of His Presidency; Reagan: The Man and His Presidency; and The Monarchy: An Oral Biography of Elizabeth II.

Introduction

It always comes as a surprise to me when a gifted writer and interpreter of our faith wishes to tell something about me. The "days" in this book are similar to many others. If anything has been omitted, it is the larger scope of the activities of members of my team, members of local mission committees, and, most of all, of the sacrifice my own wife and children have made because of my ministry.

I could wish that no one reading this record would fail to see the beautiful manifestation of the power and sovereignty of God in this ministry. As for me, I can claim no supernatural power of my own. There are many godly and talented men, but God has chosen me in his sovereign right to proclaim the message of salvation through faith in his son, Jesus Christ. Now this is a humbling truth. Therefore I find myself in the position of John and Charles Wesley, who took as a guiding passage from the Psalms:

"Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to thy name give glory, for thy mercy and for thy truth’s sake."
[Psalm 115:1].
