The power of prayer is real. It can heal illness,
win battles, and move personal mountains. Cultures and religions
throughout the world use their own individual systems of divine
communication for comfort, serenity, guidance, and more. Each system
of prayer has its own beauty that enhances each moment of meditation,
and serves to unleash a reservoir of inner strength and spiritual
power. Unfortunately, too few of us understand or know how to tap
into the power of prayer. How to Pray was written
for everyone who wants to learn more about this universal practice.
How to Pray begins by discussing
the many benefits of prayer, including enhanced physical, mental,
and spiritual health. You'll find that the power of prayer has not
only been enjoyed by individuals and religious communities, but
has also been validated in numerous scientific studies. Following
this, the author explores the prayer and meditation practices of
Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, in each case
providing a clear explanation of that religion or philosophy's approach,
as well as true-life stories that show the significance of prayer
in the lives of real people. If you want to learn more about the
use of prayer all over the world--or if you simply long for the
comfort of personal prayer--How to Pray will give
you the knowledge, the guidance, and the inspiration that you seek.
Helene
Ciaravino received her Bachelor of
Arts in English and Master of Arts in Literature from Georgetown
University in Washington, DC. During her undergraduate career, the
author also accomplished a minor in Theology, which led her to pursue
independent studies on spirituality and prayer that continue today.
A freelance writer, Ms. Ciaravino is also the author of How
to Publish Your Poetry.

"In
How To Pray, Helene Ciaravino approaches this spiritual practice
with simple and ordinary language that the general public can enjoy.
Perhaps the greatest strength of How To Pray is that the
world around us can be connected to what lies deepest within us
all--Spirit."
Healing
Ministry, Summer 2002
"This
is a wonderful sourcebook of specific prayer practices from several
major religions. Touching on sacred spaces, blessings for different
purposes, body positions, clothing and other accessories--it's fascinating
and informative. Underneath the superficial specifics, however,
is an in-depth look at the way the world's greatest religions talk
to God, because that is what prayer is. For readers who do not practice
any specific religion--as many deeply spiritual people would describe
themselves today--there is much in these pages to ponder and perhaps
adapt to one's own prayer life. For those in the process of creating
prayer traditions for themselves and their families, it would prove
especially useful. Given a prominent placement on religion shelves,
it should attract a wide and eclectic readership."
