In the 1870s, Dr. Wilhelm Schuessler revolutionized German homeopathic medicine. A homeopathic physician, Dr. Schuessler believed that the approximately 2,000 remedies of his day could be simplified. After the doctor determined that effective ingredients in the remedies were their mineral constituents, he isolated these components and developed twelve individual remedies—the Schuessler cell salts—that are essential to maintaining health.

Homeopathic Cell Salt Remedies
is a simple yet comprehensive guide to the history, theory, and use of cell salts. Part One provides a history of Dr. Schuessler’s discovery, a brief overview of each cell salt, and comprehensive instructions for using the remedies. Part Two features a Simplified Remedy Guide offering an A-to-Z listing of common disorders and their remedies. This is followed by a detailed discussion of each of the cell salts. Rounding out the book are a chapter on using cell salts for youth and beauty, a glossary of terms, and a resource list of firms that sell the remedies.

At a time when millions are rediscovering the many benefits of homeopathic medicine, Homeopathic Cell Salt Remedies provides a valuable introduction to the safe and effective use of cell salts.

Introduction or preface

Before his death, Dr. Linus Pauling, winner of two Nobel Prizes for chemistry and world peace, predicted that the greatest advances in the twenty-first century would be in medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology. He theorized that the motion of atoms and the way in which this motion relates to health and disease would become far better understood as the century progressed.

Dr. Pauling believed that the future of medicine would not be in the use of medical treatments for particular illnesses, but rather that the trend would be toward the development of medicines for each individual person—medicines which, like a fingerprint, would reflect an individual’s unique physical attributes, and would specifically assist each person in maintaining optimal health. This advanced concept is, surprisingly, remarkably similar to the theory of a school of medicine that originated in Germany more than two centuries ago. It is known as homeopathic medicine.

Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler (1821–1898) was born in Oldenburg, Germany. He almost single-handedly revolutionized homeopathic medicine in the mid-nineteenth century. Dr. Schuessler, a homeopathic physician, felt that the 2,000 or so homeopathic remedies used in his day could be simplified. Determining that the active ingredients in this vast array of remedies were their mineral constituents, he worked in his laboratory to isolate the mineral components, which ultimately resulted in twelve individual remedies. These became known as the Schuessler cell salts.

Today, much of the homeopathic cell salt-based medicine practiced throughout the world is founded on Dr. Schuessler’s work. Since the twentieth century, homeopathy has enjoyed widespread popularity in Germany, France, parts of Latin America, Mexico, and India. The cell salts are widely used in Great Britain (Queen Elizabeth’s royal physician is a homeopathic practitioner). In Russia, large homeopathic clinics and hospitals are operating in major population centers.

In the United States, homeopathy and the cell salt system have primarily been kept alive through the efforts of laymen rather than by medical professionals. Conventional medical doctors here are relatively unfamiliar with homeopathy, even though it was in a homeopathic hospital in New York that x-rays were first used in the fight against cancer.

Now, however, as public interest in self-care and natural remedies grows by leaps and bounds in the United States, the awareness of homeopathy has become increasingly widespread. Many people are discovering for themselves that cell salts can keep them well, especially when used as part of an overall approach to good health. The remedies themselves are easily obtainable, in retail outlets as well as online and by mail order.

Cell salts can have many extremely positive effects on your health. Although you take a particular remedy based on your symptoms, these medicines produce results not by simply eliminating the symptoms, but by correcting the imbalances that have caused the symptoms in the first place. Because of this, you will find that these remedies can cure far more than the symptoms for which you may have originally taken them. Furthermore, the more you involve yourself in maintaining your own health, including learning about and using cell salts, the more you will benefit.

The purpose of this book is to give an overview of the many benefits of the twelve cell salts, and to serve as a guide to their best uses in promoting and maintaining wellness. It goes without saying that the cell salts should be used for the sort of health problems that call for self-diagnosis, self-treatment, and self-medication. If you have any doubt about the seriousness of a particular ailment, you should consult a physician. It is advisable, as well, to consider an initial consultation with a homeopathic practitioner. He or she will take a detailed health history and will be able to answer any questions you may have about the use of the remedies in your particular situation. This is not absolutely necessary, but it can prove a valuable first step before beginning any cell salt program.

The twelve Schuessler cell salts have the advantage of being simple enough for almost anyone to use, while at the same time they are extremely powerful in fighting ailments and promoting health and wellness. Once you understand the different cell salts and how to use them to treat specific problems, you can take charge of your own health and begin to experience increased vitality and well-being. To your health and self-knowledge!
